Management of Severe Elbow Arthritis in a Young Patient
Elbow osteoarthritis is occasionally primary and most often post-traumatic. Nonoperative treatment is frequently the best course of action. Available surgical options are governed by the location of cartilage deterioration, bone structure, and preoperative joint instability.
Over-the-top triangular fibrocartilage complex repair may be viable option for instability
The triangular fibrocartilage complex is a critical structure in the wrist that provides stability to the distal radioulnar joint. Injury to the foveal attachment of the triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) at the distal ulnar head often disrupts the deep fibers of the dorsal and volar radioulnar ligaments, leading to pain with or without distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ) instability. This article describes the arthroscopic inside-out transosseous or "over-the-top" technique to repair the TFCC and presents a case example of this method.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Symptoms and Complications
If you have carpal tunnel syndrome, your symptoms appear gradually and are mild at first. As a result, it’s easy to ignore the tingling, pain, and clumsiness caused by a pinched nerve. But recognizing the signs of carpal tunnel and learning to differentiate it from conditions with similar symptoms helps you know when to seek treatment. Early treatment helps you avoid surgery and prevents permanent nerve damage.
Types of Hand Surgery and When its Needed
Someone may need hand surgery for many reasons. These range from traumatic injuries to conditions like carpal tunnel syndrome or rheumatoid arthritis. Hand surgery includes minimally invasive procedures and more complex microsurgeries, when a surgeon uses a microscope or magnification to repair smaller structures in the hand.
Treatments for Arthritis of the Thumb
Arthritis is a condition that causes inflammation and cartilage loss within the joint. There are several types of arthritis. The most common type—osteoarthritis, or wear-and-tear arthritis—occurs commonly in the joint at the base of the thumb, where the thumb meets the wrist.
